Keep different kinds of aid distinct
The comparison separates confirmed gift aid from loans, work opportunities and conditional awards.
Make assumptions visible
An assumptions record helps explain which period, housing arrangement and cost information the comparison uses.
Prepare a useful school conversation
The workflow connects unanswered questions to the school and source that can resolve them.
A clearer basis for the family conversation
The companion helps a family put costs and aid categories side by side while retaining the original offer information. The comparison has room for assumptions, conditional awards and questions for each school, so those details stay part of the discussion.
A look inside
The included example keeps loans and work-study separate from confirmed grants and scholarships. It also leaves a conditional scholarship visible without treating it as confirmed gift aid.

Formats and requirements
This edition covers two to five US undergraduate offers for one confirmed academic period, in USD. A PDF reader and spreadsheet app support the manual route; an assistant with document-reading and calculation tools is optional. Any documents shared with AI need permission and private details removed. No installable skill is included. Schools confirm their figures and conditions; the companion does not recommend borrowing, decide eligibility, predict future aid or project four-year costs.
Questions before you choose
What if the colleges use different labels?
The guide retains each offer’s original wording and helps organize supported costs and aid on a common basis. Its sample spreadsheet separates gifts, loans, work opportunities and conditional awards.
What will we have for the financial-aid office?
A comparison with source references, an assumptions record and school-specific questions. Those give the family concrete points to discuss with each institution, rather than an unofficial amount-due figure.
